SLOUGH & WINDSOR: Teenager jailed for 14 years for stabbing of Windsor man in 'revenge' attack

 

A Slough teenager who attempted to murder a 22-year-old Windsor man just yards away from a school has been jailed for 14 years.

Following a two week trial in December, 17-year-old Jared Pans-Matic was found guilty of stabbing Alexander Priestley during an attack in Bell View, Windsor, in June.


WHISTLEY GREEN: Man, 60, dies after suffering suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in Whistley Green

 

A 60-year-old man who was taken to hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning from a house in Whistley Green yesterday has died.

The man died in the early hours of this morning at Royal Berkshire Hospital.


OLD WINDSOR: Closing arguments delivered in trial of mother accused of causing or allowing the death of her child

The trial of an Old Windsor mum accused of causing or allowing the death of her 23-month-old daughter has continued into its fifth day.

Kirsty Lee, of Grove Close, is on trial at Guildford Crown Court charged with causing or allowing the death of toddler Cara Lee-Fanus, who was left brain dead from a severe head injury and died on Thursday, May 29, 2014.


STOKE POGES: Family 'forever grateful' young Rocco was given time to make memories

A five-year-old who suffered from intestinal failure has died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Rocco Seagrove died on Tuesday, January 19 at Kings College Hospital, London, in the arms of his mum Luciana with dad Lloyd and sister Olivia by his side.


MAIDENHEAD: Trial date set for Maidenhead man accused of encouraging support for Islamic State

 

A father-of-one from Maidenhead has appeared at the Old Bailey after being charged with encouraging support for Islamic State.

Mohammed Sufiyan Choudry, of Laggan Road, addressed the court this morning via video link from Wandsworth Prison, speaking only to confirm his name.


LANGLEY: Family of young man who died in Jubilee River appeal for bridge to be named after him

The grieving family of a young man who lost his life in the Jubilee River have launched a petition calling on Eton Town Council to change its mind about refusing to name a footbridge after him.

Michael Scaife, of Trelawney Avenue, Langley, died in August when he jumped into the Jubilee River to help save a friend who had got into difficulty in the water.


BURNHAM: Burnham Park Academy set to axe local governing bodies

The controversial academy chain that runs Burnham Park Academy is scrapping local governing bodies.

Governors at the Opendale Road school were told this week they would be replaced by “academy ambassadorial advisory bodies” by February.


SLOUGH: Slough man banned from keeping animals for 10 years for mistreating dog and puppies

A 23-year-old man has been given a 10-year ban from keeping animals after forcing his dog and her puppies to live in an outside pen without shelter or fresh water and surrounded by faeces.

Chetan Bali, of Lansdowne Avenue, Slough, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering and failing to ensure the welfare of his four dogs, who were living permanently outside in a pen with no bedding or shelter.


ROYAL BOROUGH: More than £11m cut from Royal Borough's maintained schools budget

More than £11m will be trimmed from the Royal Borough's maintained schools budget – for schools that it directly funds as local education authority.

For 2016/17, the borough has budgeted £42,127,000 for maintained schools, compared to £53,544,000 last year, a reduction of £11,417,000.

 


ROYAL BOROUGH: Fair Funding campaigners exhaust Royal Borough complaints procedure

Fair Funding campaigners have taken their complaint about the council’s decision to award £480,000 of developer funding to Holyport College to the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO).

Bethan Osborne, of Gringer Hill, was one of the leading members of the group angered by the council’s decision to award the S106 money to the school in Ascot Road in April 2015.

 


LANGLEY: Slough council no longer opposes plans to move train depot to Langley

A controversial and unpopular decision to move a train depot to Langley could now go ahead after Slough Borough Council (SBC) withdrew its opposition.

As part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project, a parliamentary bill proposed moving the Heathrow Express depot from its current location in Old Oak Common in London to an area which is north east of Langley Station.


MAIDENHEAD: Theresa May weighs in on Maidenhead Post Office debate as petition is launched

 

Home Secretary Theresa May has weighed in on the debate over the future of Maidenhead Post Office, seeking assurances that services will remain in the town.

The directly-managed Crown branch, at 114 High Street, was among a list of 42 released last week whose future is up for consultation.


TAPLOW & BURNHAM: Consultation begins on how to improve Hag Hill Lane rat-run

Rat-running along Hag Hill Lane may soon come to an end as residents are consulted on how to calm traffic in the area.

Burnham Parish Council has access to a fund of £70,000 designated to be used for traffic calming measures and parking improvements along Hag Hill Lane and to the end of Hag Hill Rise.


SLOUGH: Women in Slough urged to book 'life-saving' tests for cervical cancer

When Claire Rushby got a letter inviting her for her first smear test at the age of 25, she did not hesitate to make an appointment.

But despite growing awareness for the importance of cervical screening, many women still do not turn up for the potentially life-saving test.

 


 

DATCHET: 'Precious' stained glass window smashed during break in at Datchet church

An act of ‘thoughtless vandalism’ will set a Datchet church back £5,000.

St Mary’s Church, in London Road, was broken into overnight between Monday and Tuesday.


COOKHAM: Open letter written to Theresa May about Crossrail concerns from Cookham Parish Council

An open letter to Maidenhead MP Theresa May has been written by Cookham Parish Council urging her to support the campaign to keep direct trains from Cookham to Paddington and to electrify the branch line.

Cookham is due to lose its direct service to Paddington after the arrival of Crossrail in May 2017.

Alan Devonshire is thrilled to be welcoming captain Alan Massey back to the Magpies’ squad for the visit of Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday after his suspension expired.

Massey has been on the sidelines for Devonshire’s side for the past two games, after the defender picked up two yellow cards in Maidenhead’s 3-2 defeat to Margate on Saturday, January 9.
