What's on: Events and church services over Christmas

MAIDENHEAD: The grand finale of the Maidenhead Living Advent Calendar will take place at St Mary’s Church from 4pm.

TWYFORD: A carol service at St Mary’s Church will mark the closing of this year’s Living Advent Calendar tonight (Thursday).

Arranged by Twyford Village Partnership, the 24-day schedule has included an event for everyday of December.

The church in Station Road will host two events today (Thursday), first a crib service between 3.30pm and 4pm, before a candlelit carol service, from 7pm.


BOURNE END: Walkers can put their best foot forward on Christmas Day on a festive walk through fields and woodland around Bourne End.

Led by Buckinghamshire County Council Health Walks coordinator Fiona Broadbent, the one and a half hour circular walk starts at Hedsor Road Social Club, Bourne End, at 11am.

WINDSOR: Volunteers are wanted for a Christmas Day lunch. Churches Together Windsor is arranging the lunch and is looking for helpers and entertainers. Drivers are also needed to take guests to the venue at 12.30pm and to return home at 3.30pm.

COOKHAM DEAN: Returning to Cookham Dean on Boxing Day is an annual event which will see teams of eight battling it out in five challenges to win a prestigious Loo Seat Trophy.

The Boxing Day Games charity competition, hosted by the Kaffirs of Cookham Dean, will be held at the Old Cricket Common from 10am on Saturday, December 26.

The event will consist of five wacky games which will be kept a secret until the day. A tug of war and an obstacle course will conclude it.

Entries can only be made on the day and cost £30 per team.

DATCHET: Datchet Border Morris group will hold its Boxing Day performance on the Green from 10.40am.

SLOUGH: A lunchtime concert is to take place at St Mary’s Church on Saturday. Organist, Malcolm Stowell, will lead the concert at the church, in Church Street. It starts at noon. Entrance is free but donations are welcome.


SLOUGH: The Race Hut in Montem Road, is hosting a taster event on Sunday. The event consists of a 20 minute qualifying session and a 10 minute race where all cars will line up on the grid and race to the chequered flag in a safe environment. Visit theracehut.com for more information.
