End of an era for Round and About magazine chairman

It’s the end of an era at Round and About magazine as Winnie Sands steps down as chairman after 29 years.

Winnie Sands (front left) is leaving after more than 30 years

Winnie is the longest standing committee member and chairman the magazine has had since she joined in 1983.

The magazine is a bi-monthly publication for Burnham, Hitcham, Taplow and Dorney, and is managed by a committee of the Burnham Community Association.

Winnie, who has lived in Burnham since 1932, said: “It’s time for me to step down now that everything is done more on computers and the internet. It’s something I can’t quite keep up with. I’m proud to get the magazine to 200 editions. I didn’t think it would do that well.”

Winnie, who lives in St Peter’s Close, is still involved with the townwomen’s guild and Burnham United Reformed Church.

Jean Stanger is taking over as chairman. She said: “I like what Winnie has done with the magazine, it all works really well so I don’t want to change anything.”
