Library friend honoured for making Burnham better

The dedicated chairman of the Friends of Burnham Library has been named a community champion at the South Bucks Chairman’s Community and Volunteering Awards.

Popular villager Andrew Strathdee has dedicated his retirement to helping the village.

His work at Burnham Library in Windsor Lane helps to ensure that there are as many resources as there can be.

Sue Lemon, library manager, nominated him for the annual awards held last week at South Buckinghamshire Golf Course.

Sue said: “I chose Andrew because I think he deserves the recognition for everything he does. All the staff at the library supported my nomination for him as well.

“Hopefully it will also get a few more people to sign up to the Friends of Burnham Library as well.”

The awards, held on Thursday April 23, recognise those who give their time to improve their community.

Andrew, of Green Lane, said: “Anything I do in the library would not be possible without a devoted team of enthusiasts equally devoted to making sure that the library remains as a key hub in the community, so we can continue to offer a wide range of cultural, informational and learning activities in a friendly and secure environment.

“In a sense, I suppose it is not just an award for me but for the friends and the work we do.”

He added: “The magic thing about libraries is that they are for everybody from the community, across all levels of education, age, and income regardless and as a community-supported-library we are there to partner with the county council so we can continue to have such an asset in the community.”
