A 21-year-old from Cippenham has been jailed for 18 months for an 'appalling assault' on a man with a vodka bottle.
Ryan Hodge, of Hunters Way, was found guilty of ABH at Reading Crown Court on Monday, following a three day trial.
Police said the attack occurred on November 17, 2012, when the victim - a man in his 40s - was travelling along Burnham Lane in a taxi.
He saw a group of youths jump out in front of a pizza delivery driver causing him to swerve.
The victim recognised one of the youths and got out of the taxi to talk to her when he was struck by Hodge, who was part of the group.
He was hit on the back of his head, opening a 3cm gash which needed medical attention.
“This was an appalling assault on a man who had stopped to speak to a girl who was part of a group that had caused a pizza delivery driver to deliberately swerve," said the investigating officer, DC James Heath.
“I would like to thank three witnesses who not only came forward following the incident but who have also given evidence in court which ultimately helped convict Hodge.”
