Steve Hayes puts London Wasps up for sale

jul20_waspsMillionaire Steve Hayes has put London Wasps up for sale just months after failing in a bid to build a new community stadium and sporting village at Booker, Great Marlow.

Wycombe District Council pulled out of the joint partnership plan after deciding it was too much of a financial risk and did not justify developing a greenbelt site.

Hayes said he remained disappointed by the decision but felt the sporting-village model was still viable and would work with any potential new owners to develop at an 'alternative location'.

WDC leader Cllr Alex Collingwood, who was one of four cabinet members to swing the axe in July, said he wanted Wasps to stay in the district and was willing to work with the club to find a way forward.

He added: "There was a lot of local opposition to the plans and when the leadership of the council changed, we felt in the current climate it was important to focus energies on other local projects such as a new sports centre at Handy Cross."
