Burnham FC boss Stone calls for one last push
Burnham FC boss Martin Stone says his team must put the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat at Barton Rovers behind them and finish the season as strongly as possible.
The 4-2 loss at Barton was Burnham’s first defeat in six league games and only their third in 16 following a run which stretches back to early December.
That strong run of form has seen them move away from the relegation zone and they are now sitting safely in 14th without having to worry about what is happening below them.
But Stone insists there is still much to play for and says his side will not be easing up over the last six weeks of the season.
He said: “We’ve got ourselves nicely into mid-table but now we need to kick on and get into the top 10 which will be a decent finish considering the start we had to the season.
“We’ve been on a good run and it’s important we continue to pick up points.
“It was disappointing to lose on Saturday but Rugby is a difficult place to go and we had a lot of knocks and injuries.
“So it wasn’t really surprising to me. What we want to do now is get another run going.”
Bedworth United are the visitors to the Gore on Saturday, a team who sit third in the Southern Central Division.
The two sides shared the spoils when they met earlier in the season and Stone knows his side will have to be at their best to pick up three points.
He said: “They are a good side and if we don’t get ourselves ready we’ll be in for another defeat."
