Royal photo memories needed for exhibition

TreasuredQueen memories memories of special royal occasions are being sought as Windsor library prepares for a diamond jubilee exhibition.

Librarian Chris Atkins is asking residents to dig deep into their photo albums to come up with photographic memories to donate or lend to the library for the exhibition.

The exhibition – which will run from Monday, May 14 to Saturday, June 16 on the first floor of Windsor Library, Bachelors Acre – will feature photos and reminiscences from street parties and other royal celebrations for the coronation and previous jubilees over the past 60 years.

Contributions should be taken to Windsor, Eton or Dedworth libraries during opening hours in the coming weeks where they will be logged and kept until they can be scanned and returned to their owners.

Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "This is a really good way for local people to get involved and feel part of the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations.

"I am sure a lot of residents must have photos of royal occasions in the past – if they take the time and trouble to loan them to the library this could be a really exciting and unique exhibition. So please dust off those old albums and share some of those very special memories with visitors to Windsor this summer."

Chris Atkins can be contacted on 01628 796974. For library opening hours visit the Royal Borough website at www.rbwm.gov.uk

Also getting into the jubilee spirit is the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum which is staging an exhibition entitled A Royal Occasion featuring previous jubilee and other royal memorabilia and artefacts from the last two centuries including the 1842 christening cake of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII.

The recently opened exhibition runs until 25 June on the ground floor of the Guildhall in High Street. Visit www.rbwm.gov.uk for opening hours.
